The Best of the Best: Part 3 - Non-Business Business Books

best of the best business strategy Jan 14, 2022

The top non-business books that helped me grow a successful business.

There are a ridiculous amount of business books out there. As a non-MBA and non-traditional business educated person, I naturally gravitated towards personal development books and let my dad (a very traditional business guy, CEO and Chairman of the Boards) teach me about business.

Here are a few of the non-business books that made the biggest impact on my business.

1. You Are A Badass At Making Money - by Jen Sincero

I meet SO MANY business owners who deeply want to run thriving and profitable businesses but struggle with guilt and shame around wanting, spending and having money. This book helped me relate to money better, address my fears and excuses around my money mindset, and take some risks I knew I needed to take but was paralyzed by fear. I listened to the audiobook read by the author and have listened to it at least ten times.

2. Dream First, Details Later - by Ellen Bennett

If you’ve ever wanted to accomplish something scary but felt stuck because you didn’t know how – this book is for you. You’ll learn the inspiring story of Ellen Bennett and how she created her world-renowned, multi-million dollar company, Hedley & Bennett, with nothing more than a few hundred bucks and a dream. If you’re anything like me, you’ve had a dream and then stopped yourself from taking action because thoughts like "that's impossible," or "I wouldn't even know where to start," or "I'm not qualified to do that," popped into your head. In this book, you’ll learn how to get past those fears and make magic happen. I listened to the audiobook read by the author and found her voice and stories captivating.

3. Greenlights - by Matthew McConaughey

This was one of my favourite books of all time. I can’t put into words how much I enjoyed the stories and lessons Matthew McConaughey tells in this whimsical yet life-changing take on creating positive momentum and listening to your gut and the universe. It helped me rekindle my relationship with my intuition, taught me how to make positive momentum in my life, and what I can do to get out of those tricky stuck periods. Once again, I listened to the audiobook read by the author and was both thoroughly entertained and moved by his performance. I can’t recommend this one enough.

I was delighted by the helpful and actionable tips Rodgers gives to new and existing business owners to step out of their comfort zone and start thinking BIGGER. After reading this book, I was inspired, motivated, and ready to start making more money. It helped me take small but powerful steps to generate more revenue and stop playing small.
